VISITORS AND GUESTS

PAST RUNS

George told tales of Moab and listed the many trails he was able to enjoy while there.  The new trailer worked great and with a new set of tires (8!?) in his garage, he is sure to be back on speaking terms with his wife in a few months.  It sounds like the trails were great, the scenery interesting and George is already looking forward to his next trip there.

The next run was also presented by George.  He ran Mojave Road from East to West again with the trailer in tow.  It sounds like this was also a great trip.  He was the only vehicle on this trip I believe.  There was a bunch of interest and commitment that fizzled as the day grew closer.  Sorry George.  Glad to hear you had a good time anyway.

FUTURE RUNS

As instructed, we have inked in the Earth Day project in Big Bear on April 19th.  Because of the extensive damage done by the wild fires last year and the large amount of repair work being conducted with heavy machinery, this project was recently cancelled in an effort to reduce risk of us getting in the way and having the hard work we completed changed by heavy equipment.  Look for this project day to be rescheduled so we can continue to maintain our adopted trail and help to keep the trails open for everyone's enjoyment.  Due to the difficulty in removing the ink from the calendars, there is now talk of a run on the same day.  Both Rowher and Wildomar have been offered up by our fearless leader (Warren).  A few responses will clarify the club's direction.

For May, a Big Bear trip is currently shown on the calendar for the 17th.  Trails are still being discussed, but I remember mention of John Bull, Gold Mountain, and possibly something else if we are feeling frisky.  More to follow as our calendar seems to be a little less firm than in years past this year.

For June, a beginner run was discussed.  Erik (that's me) offered to lead a Hungry Valley trip including Pronghorn trail and the 4X4 practice area.  This run would be suitable for any interested parties with low range and a stock vehicle.  The rest of us can have fun too.  Please invite any newbies or slightly interested parties as this run seems like a great way to let people get their feet wet in the sport.

For July, another trip to Big Bear is shown in my Calendar.  This one also mentions John Bull.  There are plenty of trails to enjoy in this area and it is a great place to go as the temperatures start to rise here in the city.
For August, I have noted a Shaver Lake trip, likely lead by George as the rest of us have yet to enjoy this area enough to feel comfortable leading.  I captured the 22nd through the 24th, but for some reason thought the 22nd and the 25th would be travel days with wheeling on the 23rd and 24th.

FUTURE ACTIVITIES

NEW BUSINESS

The April meeting was held at the Sizzler on Beach just north of the 22.  The service seemed to be good, the food was fine and Joe really enjoyed the ice cream.  Maybe the Beer turned his nose towards the ice cream, but at least there was beer.  The room was pretty quiet, not too crowded, and it seems possible to get a table separated from the rest of the clientel to minimize our disruptions.  A common theme from the group was that it was a bit expensive, though some made the experienced decision to go with the salad bar and also enjoy the warm bits to make a full meal on a budget. The parking lot report again is favorable as plenty of parking was available and the surface and paint quality appear to be up to par with our expectations.

Next month (May), the meeting will be held at the Coco's on Valley View north of I405/22.
