4Play held a run to the Oceano Dunes SRVA on the weekend of July 21, 2000. We also held the 4 Play Days during this trip. The creek was a non-issue even at high tide. This is a bit of a disappointment since a good high tide on Saturday evening is always entertaining.

Frank and Sue Hayes and their grandchildren were first to arrive on their way home from a Rubicon trip. Warren and Chrishanne Sternin, George and Tammy Witkowski, Dave & Jodi Christian and family, Clayton Miller and his friend Lance, Billy and Connie Simms, and Bud Keil and his son Chris all participated in the festivities. Mike and Donna Kuntz from the San Diego club joined us and provided everyone with a jar of great homemade plum jams. We may have to invite the Kuntz' back next year after plum season.

Blind Man's Bluff, Tin Can Alley, and an informal round of Sand Drags were the events of the weekend. Bud Keil set up the courses with lots of help from other club members who have more experience in setting up, running, and scoring such events. They all turned out to be a lot of fun especially since they were run in the sand. Dave & Jodi Christian & family took 1st place in Tin Can Alley (ok Dave, it was a perfect run, enough already) while Clayton and his friend Lance captured 2nd place and Warren & Frank brought home 3rd. Bud & Chris Keil were 1st in the Blind Man's Bluff competition with Frank and Mike in 2nd and Lance and Clayton in 3rd. With only four vehicles, the Sand Drags held on Sunday were mostly for bragging rights, and of course Warren Sternin came in 1st with his fresh V8 Chevota (or is that a Toylet?). Billy was 2nd and George came in 3rd.

When we weren't running games, there was plenty of time to cruise the dunes, pull out full size Dodge, Chevy, and Ford trucks, and generally have a good time. The Christian kids took their inaugural ride on an ATV this weekend while a nervous mom and dad video taped the event. It was obvious that both kids enjoyed the ride and it appears that the Christian garage may need to be cleared out to make room for some additional off road equipment.

A majority of the world' s problems were solved around the campfire Saturday night after dining at Old Juan's Cantina and indulging in fishbowl Margaritas. It is amazing how all of life's problems become so much easier to solve after a trip to Old Juan's.

Thanks to Dave Christian for the homemade trophies. Calling these trophies unique would be an understatement. I know that Chris Keil couldn't let go of ours for the first hour of our trip back home.
