Big Bear Snow Run December 2002

Return to Run Report List

It was a wonderful day for a snow run. Not to cold, bright and sunny, and not to much wind.

We started off with Cal being late because he had a blowout on the left front of his Dodge at about 70 MPH just before he got to our meeting place. Then Billy spinning out on Hwy. 18 above Snow Summit and hitting the bank on the opposite side, no damage.

We got on the trail and found a lot less snow than we had hoped for but it was great just being on the snow after so long. We played in the rock garden on Holcomb Creek Trail and remembered how the snow makes even easy obstacles hard.

We got to the end of 3N16 and it was still early so we decided to go down Deep Creek to Arrowhead. About a mile into the trail Warren and a Scout sideswiped each other.

The Scout was coming up the road on the wrong side and in his words he was booking because he had lost his front drive shaft and didn't want to get stuck. His driver door was mashed in and his rear wheel was bent almost double. Warren lost his left front fender, turn signals, and door mirror.

We got them both road worthy again and turned around and left the trail and came home since it was getting late and we wanted to be off the mountain before dark. I'm sure Warren will give a more complete run report as it was his run, grin.
