Big Bear Snow Run, Feb 28 2003 | |||||
|
Return to Run Report List There were 6 rigs including myself. Cal, Clayton, Basil, Chris, Andy, and me. We met at Dennys and decided to go in at Green Valley on 3N-16 and see what the snow was like. One of the locals that has road equipment had run his grader down the trail so it was pretty but no challenge. About 1/2 way to Crab Flats the grader track ended and it got a little more fun. We came across a land Rover Disco stuck in the middle of the road and I had to pull him out. Just before we got to Holcomb Creek trail a tree was down across the road and I had to winch it out of the way. We went across Holcomb creek with me making first tracks in the snow. In places it was drifted over 2 1/2 feet deep and was a challenge to break through going up hill. Basils TJ was stock and in many places I had to strap or winch him through but we got off the trail and off the mountain before dark with no one having breakage or damage. As we were going down the mountain it started snowing hard for a bit but we got below snow line shortly so the driving wasn't bad. Most of the day I was in just a T shirt so it was a pleasant day and I think everyone had a great time. Thanks Chris for the idea. Frank Hayes KE6RDG |
