Snow Run 1/1/2005

Return to Run Report List

Saturday morning, we met for breakfast at Olympic Flame broiled burgers in Hesperia.  At 9:00am 5 vehicles pulled out and headed for Bowen ranch road.  After airing down, we started up the mountains.  I’d heard on the news that the snow level was 5000 feet and started wondering if we’ld find enough to play in as we passed the 5700 foot mark with only a spotty snow on the ground.  My fears were gone as we continued climbing and found plenty to keep us occupied.

Though there were tracks on the main fire roads, we found a few roads that hadn’t seen traffic since the last snow fall.  We spent several hours blazing a trail through untracked snow ranging from 6 to 12 inches.  We got to the beginning of the Holcomb creek trail and had lunch by the creek.  Bill drove across and climbed the hill on the far side.   After lunch we tried a couple of more trails and found some beautiful winter scenery.

The weather was beautiful and we never had to get out a strap.  Definitely too cold for short sleeve shirts, but nice enough that I only wore my gloves when picking up the snow.  We got down the mountain and into town before 6:00pm.  If you weren’t there you missed a great day.
