Return to Run Report List We met at the Flying J truck stop just north of Gorman. Shortly after 9:00 am we headed up the road to the trail head. After airing down, we were on the trail. Benny Wells and I leading in my FJ40 followed by Calvin “Pipe Wrench” and Lucy Kurakowa in their CJ-5 and Steve “Mellow Yellow” Bass in his CJ-7. Though the first hill is sometimes challenging, we all made it up with no difficulty. At Kabob hill the hard route proved to be no problem for any of us. Meandering slowly through the Lockwood valley, we had lunch at the bottom of Miller Jeep Trail about 1:00 in the afternoon After lunch, we started up Alamo Mountain. Even the most difficult sections proved to be no problem for our vehicles. As usual however, the combination of a V8, automatic, and no fan shroud caused my temperature to rise somewhat. Spraying the radiator and heater core with a squirt bottle borrowed from Steve did the trick and we made it to the top by a bit after 4:00. We were back in Gorman and on the road home before 5:00 pm. No one broke anything and other than my temperature risising, we had no problems all day. The weather was great; sunny and not to hot. On the way down into Hungry Valley, we did see three guys in a Blazer trying to cut a new trail. I politely explained that their actions were what the environmentalists would pick up on to file law suits closing the area. The sheepishly apologized and headed down the hill. We hit very little traffic on the way home putting a perfect end to a good day of wheelin. Happy Trails, Warren “Crash” Sternin |
