Johnson Valley, May 10 2005

Cal, Jefe, and I arrived at means dry lake and set up camp about 2:30 Friday afternoon.  By 3 we were ready to hit the trail.  For some reason Cal wanted to do Outer Limits (the longest and farthest from camp).  Since the fall floods it is also one of the toughest.  About a 3ed of the way up the trail on a steep water fall I heard a loud pop.  Cal says I broke an axle.  After checking it out and not finding anything wrong we continued on up the trail and back to camp getting there a little after 9pm.  The next morning with Adam and Blains group we headed over to Wrecking Ball.  It was a pair of fun days and the weather was great.  About 3/4 of the way through on a steep tall waterfall just as I was going over the top I heard that loud pop again.  When I got to the next boulder my left front wasn't turning but the axle was so a 10 minute hub change and I was good to go.  I guess I cracked it the day before and shattered it the next.  It was the first time on a tough trail with Adam and he did a great job.  I'm not sure if he likes his new IROC tires though.
