A much better turn out this year. 11
vehicles and approximately 25 people! Traffic on the 91
made life difficult for the people coming out on Friday as
usual, but everyone got there safely. Saturday morning we
hit the trail. We started by the Mojave River this time,
instead of up the trail.

As you would expect, we had no problems on
the trail. Just cruised right along. Apart from a flat
tire on Dan's "OJ" Bronco, The day was
mechanically uneventful. Unfortunately we didn't get many
pictures from Saturday either as we zipped along so well!
Saturday night was spend at the usual rest spot, a large
rock pile giving shelter from any winds (none).
Sunday got somewhat more eventful. Did all the sights,
Fort Piute, the Petroglyphs, Money Tree, etc.

We stopped for lunch at the lava flows and
played in a huge lava tube.

The OJ Bronco got another flat, so Jim
from CORVA lent him his spare. a 33", 2" bigger
than the OJ Bronco tires, So we had to shuffle the tires
around to avoid having the rear detroit having problems.
15 mins later he got his last and final flat! Fortunately
it was near a road, so AAA came and got him.
**Side Note** When you are the ONLY tire place in town,
you can charge what you want for tires. $440 for 2
Goodyear Wrangler AT's!!!**
Crossing the Soda Lake was very easy, no mud, just really
dusty, REALLY dusty!!

A few miles down the trail, we crossed the
Mojave Basin Sink, A large sand wash. One of the rigs ran
into trouble (and out of enough power) pulling his
trailer, so Jim took over pulling the trailer, while Dale
made sure the Willy's got out. Except he ran out of gas!!
It took a good hour to get moving again. Jim took a wrong
turn, and no-one who had him in view said anything. So we
had to wait and watch helplessly as distant dust cloud
moving back and forward 2 miles away (His CB crapped out
too), until he found us.
We made it to Afton Canyon, only to have Dale lose a bolt
from a shock mount. With no spare, he had to pull the
shock off. By now it was about 7:00pm, so we all wanted to
get on the road home. We aired up by the I15, and headed
down to Peggy Sue's for supper.
On the way we found the Willy's, who had left before us,
cruising the hard shoulder at 20mph! He had a fuel pump
problem, which occurred above 2200rpm. After a REALLY bad
attempt at "rescuing" him, (remember the
Keystone cops!?!?!?!) We had supper and found our way
home.
